Mayne Island at a Glance
Just one bite of a freshly picked apple or a refreshing swim in a warm, sheltered
bay will leave visitors to Mayne Island with indelible memories. Situated midway
between Galiano Island
to the north and Saturna
Island to the south, Mayne Island boasts a warm, temperate climate and scenic
surroundings that include orchards, pastures and forests. Hike the trail to
the top of Mount
Parke for an impressive view of Active Pass (the passage between Galiano
and Mayne Island), the surrounding Gulf
Islands and the mainland. Mayne’s quiet roads make them ideal cycling paths,
with a shoreline tour taking peddlers approximately five hours. On route, stop
in the community of Miners Bay to see the Mayne
Museum, a one time jail that housed rowdies rather than records, and the
Mayne
Mast, a restaurant that was once the farmhouse for one of many Japanese
settlers who helped establish Mayne’s commercial base.
